Rally FAQs - Rally rules

Come see and ride in electric cars owned and driven daily by people in the Bay Area. Free admission, free rides!

There are four main areas of Rally activity. There is a display area with vehicles on static display, an area for test-driving personal electric vehicles including electric bikes and scooters (please read the safety rules), a vendor area with a selection of green companies and EV dealers, and finally there is the rally for distance which allows registered members to compete for prizes and offer visitors rides in a variety of electric vehicles. Registered display vehicles are also eligible for prizes.

Vehicle participants:
Please register if you wish to participate in the rally or display a vehicle. The form is linked above. Delivery can happen prior to the event and there is space west of El Camino Real on campus since there will be no football game and the area around the stadium is clear. Vehicle must arrive before 9 am on the day of the event. A variety of EV charging options will be available; please email for specifics.

Expected for the 2007 Rally:

Come join us and get charged up about electric vehicles!

Want to Volunteer to Help? There is a Yahoo database to track tasks for the event. If you are interested in helping out, please join the group  (you'll need to become a Yahoo member if you aren't already) and we'll send you a list of available tasks. There are tasks before and during the event but all of them are important to making the event special for many people. If you have any questions, please contact Jerry.

Electric Vehicle Safety Rules

The following rules apply to riders of all electric bikes, scooters, etc.

1. Pedestrian safety is the highest priority – act accordingly.
2. Riders under 18 years of age must have parental permission to ride.
3. Parents must supervise riders under age of 18 at all times.
4. Riders must stay within designated riding area.
5. Riders must maintain a safe speed at all times to protect the rider and other people and property.
6. All two-wheel EV riders must wear helmets (we recommend you bring your own helmet if you think you'll be trying out two-wheel EVs, though vendors will have a few helmets available).
7. Failure to abide by above rules will result in loss of riding privileges.

Electric Auto Association – Silicon Valley Chapter

Background
The Electric Auto Association (EAA), is a non profit, national organization with 1000 members worldwide founded in 1967, dedicated to the promotion of electric vehicles and to support the owners of electric vehicles.

The EAA has been organizing rallies for 34 years to help introduce electric vehicles to the public. The 2007 rally at Palo Alto High School will include several production electric vehicles on display for the public (with some available for test rides) -- vehicles which have been in regular use in the Bay Area for many years.

In the 1900, electrics out numbered gas powered vehicles and there were hundreds of companies building electrics at this time. Electrics again have an important role as an alternative to fossil fuel powered vehicles.

Surveys show that 80% of Bay Area commuters drive less than 30 miles each day. Many of these drivers could have an EV as a daily commuter.
